I think in any case where a criminal defendant is African-American, race will always play some role and always be some issue in the case. In this one, it does not appear to be the biggest issue. It appears there are other issues that will help the defense without having to discuss race. As far as the issue of interracial relationships, yes, I think both sides will probably be asking about how people feel about those types of relationships, and in other words whether a white woman should be going after an African-American man or whether an African-American man should be having a relationship with a white woman, and if they have negative feeling about that, how that might impact their decision-making process in the case.
